Accessible & Specialized Volunteer Placements

Are you or your agency looking for a volunteer opportunity for a person with a disability or who requires accommodations or support? The Regina Humane Society strives to be welcoming and inclusive to all while ensuring the safety of volunteers and animals. For everyone’s safety, volunteers at the Regina Humane Society must have the ability to work independently once training has been completed or access to appropriate accommodations to safely perform their volunteer tasks. At this time, the RHS is unable to provide one-on-one volunteer support, therefore any support required must be provided and arranged by the volunteer.

Individuals

Based on a person’s specific physical and/or cognitive abilities, we may require you to provide your support system when you volunteer at RHS. This may be a friend or family member who will assist you in your volunteer work. If you’re unsure of whether or not you will require support while volunteering, contact our Community Engagement Coordinator at volunteer@reginahumane.ca. We recognize each individual’s situation is different and will do our best to help get you started with volunteering!

Agencies

Based on your clients’ independent skills and abilities, your agency may be required to provide support staff to assist the client while volunteering with the RHS. Agency support staff will be asked to register as a volunteer themselves and complete the orientation and training just as a regular volunteer would. The role of support workers will be to provide direction, coaching, and assistance to ensure all policies and procedures are being followed for safety purposes.

Are You a Support Worker?

If you plan to support your client during their volunteer experience, you can proceed with registering to volunteer through the regular application process. Please ensure that two separate applications are submitted: one for you and one for your client. Please note that you are only required to pay one volunteer administrative fee for both you and your client.

Is the Administration Fee a Barrier to Your Volunteering with RHS?

We want everyone to be able to experience the joy of volunteering. While our administration fee is important to cover the cost of the RHS volunteer program, we do not want it to be a barrier to anyone wishing to volunteer with the Regina Humane Society. If the administration fee is a barrier to you becoming a volunteer with RHS, please contact the Community Engagement Coordinator (see below).
